NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Like it or not, students at Tennessee colleges are part of a state program aimed at boosting graduation rates and that means having to deal with someone giving advice and monitoring progress.
The student-adviser relationship is considered key to the program that is intended to be a safety net to boost graduation rates that are as low as 15 percent at Southwest Community College.

Waves of bright-eyed freshmen are arriving on campuses around the state this week to find a safety net waiting to make sure they stay there until they graduate.
