Tennessee sheriff says woman, 85, mauled to death by her pit bull

ETOWAH, Tenn. — A Tennessee sheriff said an 85-year-old woman passed away after being mauled at her home by her pet pit bull.
McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy said Mattie Daugherty went into her home Saturday morning to check on the dog, which then apparently attacked her head and neck.
Guy told the Chattanooga Times Free Press that family members outside the Southeastern Tennessee house didn’t report hearing any sounds or screams.

Tennessee guardsman faces misconduct charges in Iraq

Capt. Darrel Hull, who commanded the 252nd Military Police Company based in Cleveland, did not return home with the rest of the 170-soldier unit in July after an 11-month tour in Iraq.

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee warns of job cuts

CHATTANOOGA BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has notified more than 100 employees that their jobs are "in jeopardy" as part of planned cuts in its TennCare division.
A spokeswoman for the state's largest health insurer said executives want to limit layoffs while trying to cut 140 jobs from the TennCare division by November.
Spokeswoman Mary Thompson told the Chattanooga Times Free Press that employees were told about potential job reductions.
BlueCross plans to leave vacant jobs unfilled and will shift some employees to different departments.
Thompson said BlueCross in March cut 93 positions, but just eight employees lost their jobs.

CHATTANOOGA — The Tennessee Valley Authority has cut power generation in half at its largest nuclear plant to avoid overheating the Tennessee River in Alabama, costing the utility millions of dollars.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee Valley Authority is losing tens of millions of dollars in power generation at its largest nuclear plant to avoid overheating the Tennessee River in Alabama.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports the nation's largest public utility has already lost nearly $50 million in power generation at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant near Athens, Ala.
